Variations
Rebaroque presents a swinging programme of tunes from all over Europe, fully using the possibilities of improvisation. In the hands of Rebaroque’s musicians, the most popular tunes of the past will turn into toe-tapping, captivating folk baroque music for us here today.
”Whether it is folklike baroque music or folk music in a baroque disguise beats me. There is drive and rhythm, and it completely avoids the stiff reverence with which early music is often performed. Here we find life and stamping of feet and music that is fun, just like the musicians have fun playing it.”
Dancing Bach
We all know there is a swing in Bach - but we dare say you will not have heard interpretations like ours of good old Johann Sebastian’s music!
Like many other baroque composers, Bach was inspired by the popular dance music of his time. With his customary mastery he brings out the special character of each dance movement, creating truly enjoyable, virtuosic music - we promise you will feel like dancing.
”I suggest a dance to the folk music of Bach - that’s how fresh and bold he sounds in the Baroque Ensemble’s irreverently folklike interpretations. Maria Lindal and her fiddlers allow their bows to be driven by joy in a baroque jam session.”
Svenska Dagbladet
”…Like a dance of nature itself, alive and fragrant in the summer verdure.”
Upsala Nya Tidning
Roman - The Swedish Virtuoso
Few pieces are as well known in Sweden as the first movement of Roman’s Drottningholmsmusiquen. Roman left a lot of music to posterity, but little information about himself - not even a portrait. In this programme Rebaroque presents different sides of Roman’s music, from solo, chamber, through to orchestral music, including of course Roman’s famous signature tune!
”It is an utter delight to listen to these wonderful works in such brilliant interpretations, so fresh, so genial, so clever”
(Hifi & Musik)
”The energy virtually bubbles out of Rebaroque. …Not for a second does it become dull.”
(Sundsvalls Tidning)
